Michelle Lui was born in Hong Kong, began playing the piano at age of 4. Principle teachers included Dr. Michael Coonrod at Interlochen Arts Academy and Yoshikazu Nagai at San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
In 2006, she placed first in Piano Solo – Schumann, in the 58th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, made her first debut at Prize-Winner’s Concert on Television. In December 2006, she was awarded Distinction for Diploma in Recital in Solo Piano from the Trinity College London. In 2008, she was enrolled in Interlochen Arts Academy and was one of the finalists for the concerto competition at IAA. In 2009, she was selected by the academy to perform in a masterclass for Ann Schein at Gilmore Keyboard Festival. She has also played for William Wolfram and Misha Dichter at Eastern Music Festival in 2010. She was awarded the Piano Division Award with scholarship for her outstanding contribution to the festival. In March 2010, she performed Mendelssohn variation series at the Public Interlochen Radio Station. She was also the prize winners for piano solos and piano duets competitions.
In summer 2011, She won the 2nd prize of Eastern Music Festival Piano Competition and played in the Kennedy Center. She had performed in various masterclasses with John Perry, James Giles and Logan Skelton. She has frequently joined the Amalfi Coast Piano Festival and was selected to be in the Young Artist Series Concerts in Italy in 2015. In the same year, she also spent her late summer at the International Holland Music sessions studying under Boris Berman and giving a concert in Bergen, Nethelands.
