Staff Biography
Lau Chun is currently studying Bachelor of Music programme at The Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts majoring in viola performance under the tutelage of Mr. Ray Tsoi. He obtained ATCL (recital) from London Trinity Guildhall in 2011 with distinction.
Lau has worked with many orchestras, including Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra, Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra, Pro Arte Orchestra of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Festival Orchestra, Grandmaster Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and Global Symphony Orchestra. Throughout the orchestral experience, he collaborated with many world-renowned artists, including Valentina Lisita, Edward Auer, Simone Lamsma, Lio Kuokman, Perry So etc.
Lau has attended many masterclasses, including Miami String Quartet, Paul Silverthorne, principal violist of London Symphony Orchestra; Li-Kuo Chang, assistant principal violist of Chicago Symphony Orchestra; Igor Yuzefovich, concertmaster of Singapore Symphony Orchestra. He also participated in the programme ‘Share the Stage with Maestro Lorin Maazel’ with Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in 2014.
Lau believes music is the way to enrich lives, not only the joy, happiness playing the instrument, but also touching souls. Each student has their own personalities; Lau believes different pedagogies applied to different students accordingly. All-rounded music learning is not only learning the interpretation of the piece, but also the historical background, musical style and theory behind the piece.
