Staff Biography
Ka Lap Wong has graduated from the Guildhall School of Music
under the guidance of Stefan Popov. Through these years in London, He has participated in many concerts mainly playing Bach’s work, at the same time has also played with concert pianists including John York and Ivan Yanakov. He did not choose to study music initially, but it was this decision that led him realize the importance of music. He had studied under Monica Su, Artem Konstantinov, Richard Bamping, and had led improvisation
classes under David Dolan.
Ka Lap had been actively participating in orchestras and gained much
experience before studying in the Guildhall School, incluing the Diocesan Boy’s School Symphony Orchestra, HK Children’s Symphony, Pro Arte Orchestra, Asian Youth Orchestra, etc.. as well as spreading
the importance of ensemble music to young musicians actively. He is also the principal cellist of the Gusta Mahler Orchestra.
Although Ka Lap’s cello repertoire contains a huge amount of pieces, he strives to produce quality performances and never stops learning. Through these years studying in the UK, he has developed a love for arranging pieces for cello, most notably the violin partitas by J. S. Bach, at the same time also enjoys sharing contemporary (1950+) music and less-played music to audiences and friends as well.
