Staff Biography

Jim Schneider, originally from New York, USA, he has teaching credentials and conducts workshops and clinics locally. Jim obtained the Master in Music, Jazz Studies at Ithaca College in USA. Energetic and versatile, he has a 220-page book of hand-picked standards and arrangements, as well as a book of 35 originals to choose from and can sometimes be seen performing on sax and keyboards on the same performance. He plans to branch out into Europe this summer, with July performances at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival and the Estonia Jazz Festival planned. 

Festival organiser  and bassist Rickard Malmsten from Stockholm lived in Hong Kong for 10 years and brought a number of Sweden's top jazz artists here and to China for tours. At the Estonian festival, Jim performed a solo concert, and played with saxophonist Bjorn Arko, Latvian star Deniss Paskevitch and in a group with Europe's star trumpeter Anders Bergcrantz and drummer Brian Melvin, who performed with bassist Jaco Pastorius in his last years.

 

Jim has alsappeared on several recordings in HK, and a full arrangement (with horns and keyboards) of one of his original songs "Someday" appeared on Ginger Kwan's 2013 release "Kwantum Leap". He has recently been to Europe for jazz festivals in Estonia, Latvia and Sweden and in November "17 performed on saxophone with alto saxophonist Eric Marienthal in a performance at the Shouson Theatre in Wan Chai.
